Overview

The West Orange Historic Preservation Commission (WOHPC) was established in 1992 to help preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the Township. Its volunteer commissioners contribute their knowledge and experience about architecture, design, town planning, engineering, public policy, education, and West Orange history to enhance our community. WOHPC has recognized the architectural and historic significance of ten township sites through local designation.

WHY LOCAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION?

The buildings and landscapes that grace our everyday lives tell us who we are, where we have been and where we are going.

It is our cultural heritage.

Local preservation fosters pride and a spirit of community.

Local preservation connects us with the past and the history that makes each community unique.

Local preservation attracts tourists and creates the economic anchor for the revitalization of our downtown and residential districts.
