West Orange began leaf collection on Oct. 22. Collection will last until Dec. 31. The township is responsible for the maintenance of 100 miles of municipal streets and asks that residents exercise patience during the leaf collection period. Residents are also encouraged to not block traffic lanes when clearing their properties and keep curbs, gutters and catch basins clear to prevent flooding. Wet leaves can create hazardous driving conditions. Meanwhile, heat from catalytic converters can cause fires when cars park above piles of leaves.
