    LeafCollectionFall Leaf Collection Procedure 2023
    TOWNSHIP PROCEDURE: 

    Residents can start placing loose leaves in the gutter of the streets Monday, October 23rd.
    (No Branches or any other debris such as rocks, building material or garbage shall be placed in the leaf piles)
    Leaf pick-up will begin Monday, October 30st, 2023.  The last day residents/landscapers can place leaves in the street is Monday December 11th .
    The last day Public Works will be picking up leaves is Wednesday, December 27th.

     Do not block drainage inlets, driveways and cross walks.  Keep leaves 10 feet away from drainage inlets and keep the leaves 3 feet from the curb to allow the water to flow to the drains.  Use of biodegradable leaf bags is encouraged at all times.  Leaf bags will only be collected weekly from October 10TH thru December 29TH, 2023.  Spring pickup of bagged leaves will be from March 1st, 2024 through May 31st, 2024 ONLY.  ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING SHALL BE PLACED IN THE STREET AT ANY TIME OTHER THAN THE DESIGNATED PICK UP TIME IN THE FALL WHICH IS FOR LOOSE LEAVES ONLY.  Leaf bags may be obtained at the Public Works Building-25 Lakeside Ave.  They can be purchased at 5 bags for $2.

    For the collection schedule for both loose leaves and bagged leaves along County Roads, call: 973-226-8500 or check www.essexcountynj.org for additional information .   

    Leaf collection will continue until all leaves are removed from the streets.  For safety reasons, please do not park on or play in the leaf piles.  The Public Works Department removes approximately 15,000 cubic yards of leaves during an average season.  Sometimes Mother Nature does not cooperate.  There may be rain and snow storms during the pickup cycles, also trees dropping all their leaves on their schedule not ours may delay leaf collection. Your patience and cooperation during leaf season is and will be appreciated.

    RESIDENTS CAN APPLY FOR THE  WEST ORANGE MUNICIPAL IDENTIFICATION CARD.
    Municipal I.D.’s will be processed in the Township Clerk’s office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and
    3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. 
    Please call the Township Clerk’s office for an appointment at 973-325-4155.
    Information as to what is required to obtain an ID can be found on our website at www.westorange.org/municipalid  or located at www.westorange.org under Departments, Township Clerk.  The Municipal I.D. takes approximately one week to obtain after processing by our office.  The cost is $20.00, payable by cash, check or money order, made payable to the “Township of West Orange” and is renewable after 3 years.  Program is open to all residents, including people who do not have a government ID.

    WOPD Introduces "Take Me Home" ID To Help Track At Risk Residents
    The program can help find someone who has run, wandered or just walked away
    from a location within the township and ease in their safe return. The Take Me Home
     program is helpful for people who are nonverbal or easily disoriented. This includes those
     who suffer from Autism, Dementia, Deafness, Alzheimer’s and other developmental disabilities. 
    The program is strictly voluntary and not limited by age or disability. Click here for an application

    WOPD Is A Permanent Prescription Drug Drop Off Location
    The permanent collection sites are open year-round so unwanted medications can be safely discarded at the public’s convenience. Residents can dispose of their unused prescription drug medication by placing it in the marked collection sites. Dropping off medication is anonymous and safe. Residents should remove any identifying information from the medication containers, such as their name, address, telephone number and doctor’s name. Medications that are collected are brought to a licensed facility where they are safely disposed.  Please be advised that we cannot accept any sharps, epi-pens, inhalers or items containing mercury in our unwanted prescription drop box.

       Safe Exchange Zone 24-7
    The public is encouraged to take advantage of the WOPD's SAFE Exchange Zone inside the lobby of Police Headquarters at 60 Main Street. It is available for the safe exchange of legal items being sold between parties especially for interactions with unknown individuals. All transactions are videotaped and it is open to public 24 hours a day with no appointment necessary to just walk in. For further information you can contact the WOPD non-emergency number at (973) 325-4000. For emergencies or to report a crime in progress dial 9-1-1.

The last day residents/landscapers can place leaves in the street is Monday December 11th .The last day Public Works will be picking up leaves is Wednesday, December 27th. Do not block drainage inlets, driveways and cross walks. Keep leaves 10 feet away from drainage inlets and keep the leaves 3 feet from the curb to allow the water to flow to the drains.
