About the Police Department
The West Orange Police Department is a proactive and response-driven agency, striving every day to protect families and meet the public safety needs of the Township of West Orange.
History & New Challenges
Since 1894, our agency has experienced incredible changes in the policing profession. Innovations in modern technology and our long-held traditions of service through excellence, integrity, and courtesy have allowed us to safeguard the citizens of West Orange more efficiently and effectively than any other time in history. Through teamwork within our organization and with our citizens, our agency remains at the forefront of addressing the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Accountability & Accreditation
The West Orange Police Department believes in accountability as individuals and as an organization. The agency has received and maintained national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The standards upon which the program are based reflect the current thinking and experience of law enforcement practitioners, researchers, major law enforcement associations, leading educational institutions, training institutions, government agencies, and law enforcement executives internationally. CALEA’S standards for law enforcement agencies and its accreditation program act as benchmarks for today’s law enforcement agencies.
